Road safety winners

During the recent Coast to Coast motorcycle event Horizons' road safety coordinator Debbie Webster ran a survey where motorcyclists had the opportunity to win petrol vouchers if they completed the survey and returned it by a certain date.

There were 307 packs given out to motorcyclists when they registered (the survey was included in the packs) and Ms Webster received 123 completed surveys by the cut off date.

Kicking off in Himitangi, riders registered for the day and received a comprehensive safety briefing from race marshals. The survey aimed to assess the attitudes of riders to hi viz gear, hoping to address the gap for those not wearing hi viz and give road safety partners ways to bridge it.

The Coast to Coast has been sponsored by the Lions for 20 years now and Horizons Regional Council have supported them for the last 10 years.

The ride aims to raise funds for the rescue helicopter as well as raising awareness of safety, in particular hi viz gear, among motorcycle riders.

Congratulations to winners Annie Sowry of Woodville and Cliff Steffensen of Hawera for returning their survey on time.
