Jill White was elected to Horizons Regional Council in 2007, but previously served there from 1989 until 1994. She was in Parliament for fve years before becoming mayor of Palmerston North from 1998 to 2001. Jill has been chairperson of ERMA, the Environmental Risk Management Authority, and Toi te Taiao: the Bioethics Council. She is currently a Director of Manaaki Whenua: Landcare Research.
